Long before Aboli Music became a band, a record, or a platform, it existed as a feeling: a need to listen deeply and to respond honestly. A curiosity about how vibration becomes meaning, how rhythm carries memory, and how music speaks where language often fails. This passion was never limited to notes or instruments; it was rooted in people, in community, in the everyday songs of life. Growing from Cameroonian musical traditions and expanding across continents, this passion learned to travel, to adapt, and to ask questions. What does it mean to play with intention? How does music carry identity across borders? How can sound remain truthful while constantly evolving? From these questions, Aboli Music took shape — not as a fixed idea, but as a living practice grounded in exploration, respect, and creative freedom.
Founded and run by Obase-Aboli, a Cameroonian, UK-based Pan-African musician, chromatic balafonist, and music educator, Aboli Music reflects a journey shaped by study, performance, teaching, and cultural engagement. Inspired by visionary artists such as Francis Bebey, Obase-Aboli’s work bridges traditional oral music practices with contemporary composition, improvisation, and research. Over more than a decade of professional experience, he has worked with students and collaborators from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, blending rigour with intuition, structure with imagination. At the heart of Aboli Music is a belief that music is not only something to be mastered, but something to be lived. It is a cultural language — one that teaches listening, empathy, discipline, and courage. Through performances, recordings, workshops, and educational projects, Aboli Music creates spaces where heritage is honoured without being frozen, and where innovation grows from deep roots rather than surface trends.
